This morning my rents called me and said they were going to see the Falkirk Wheel - would I like to come. After a minute considering the other tasks I had planned, I headed out the door. The Falkirk Wheel was one of the things opened during the Queen's Jubilee Year, but I still went to see it (mostly after seeing it on Tomorrow's World). It uses less than the energy of ten household toasters to move two huge boats! According to my parents, there was also some Lego link, although I think this was a ruse to get me along...
I took my new camera, but I have not had a chance to reduce the filesizes, so best only to look if you have a phat connection. As I was going to the station, I took a nice picture of the Royal Mile filled with people.
The wheel moves round, taking one or more boat(s) from one canal to the other - it used to take an entire day for a boat to clear all 11 locks previously. Here are the pictures of the wheel moving two (tourist) boats (remember they are BIG): one two three four five six seven eight
A picture from the top of the wheel. All the boat trips were booked out. :-|
My parents were both looking very well, which was good to see.
