Dude, the SCART standard just describes the physical connection and the function of the 21 pins. It doesn't describe the quality of the signal produced by the device and so is no guarantee of picture or sound quality.

Given that you're not actually allowed to innovate on the DVD standard, it's little wonder that these things have become commodities though.
