If technology doesn't seem like magic, it's probably obsolete

I'm finding less time to update my blog these days, but my flickr photostream is often updated.

Playing in my house right now...

After many, many years in Edinburgh for New Year, I'm making a break with tradition and heading to Dublin with The Girl. We're flying directly over on Friday 31st morning, until the 2nd of January, staying right in the middle of Dublin (although, from what I understand, that's pretty much ALL of Dublin).

On the list of things to do so far, apart from the bells at midnight, are to finally meet Diego, assuming he hasn't been snapped up by some smart company on the other side of the world, visit the Guinness brewery and taste a few pints, and possibly check out Kilmainham Jail where part of the original Italian Job was filmed. Further suggestions of things to do/not do would be warmly welcomed. Please leave a comment!

The bus tour was quite amusing. Our driver told lots of jokes and we were treated to a rendition of Sweet Molly Malone. It takes you to the Guiness factory too.

I suggest "Cafe en Seine" on Dawson St for a great bar to go to after dinner one night. Elaborate french-style decor and a good cocktail list. It's a lot larger than it looks from the outside. It must be open quite late because I (vaguely) remember getting back to the hotel around 3am.

Do the Jamiesons distillery tour, at the start they ask for volunteers, 7 free whiskys to be had, do it before 10am to set up an amusing day, this I know from experience. Also Kilmainham Jail is the coldest place on the planet, take a jumper.

Thanks to you all for suggestions both here, and by email. I think we're all sorted now!
