If technology doesn't seem like magic, it's probably obsolete

I'm finding less time to update my blog these days, but my flickr photostream is often updated.

Playing in my house right now...

Three years ago, almost to the day (19th December), I had ADSL installed. That 512k service has handled my home data needs admirably since, but recently there was a nagging feeling in my mind that I just wasn\'t keeping up. Last week the connection was upgraded to 1Mb, only for BT, and Zen, to announce 2Mb availability. This morning that need speedbump occurred. Nice. At 45 pounds a month, it is actually less than I was paying all that time ago for a slower connection. Technology,eh...

Tell me about it, by changing from Telia to Glocalnet I can get 8Mb instead of 512k for less money. What does that tell you about ex-monopoly pricing. But then even 8Mb is pretty slow in Sweden :-)

Carrick, do you have any kind of good explanation as to why you are *not* on Glocalnet(sp?) yet??? And stop showing off about Swedish advances in ADSL. :-p

We're moving towards faster ADSL here too, apparently. Simon passed me this interesting post on the register. 18Mbps to my house. Nice!

45pounds a month!! Dude you are IN-sane. Dude, FREE rocks. I hate to rub it in but for 29euros/month, (a mere 20squid), I get 2Mb ADSL, a second phone line using my existing line (and it works), free calls to any landline in France, anyone in France can call me for price of local call, free delivery of (Wifi router capable) ADSL box, free installation, free digital TV, and it all works smoooothly. www.free.fr Have a look at their site and you'll see that they are upgrading their connection speed to 15Mb, yes FIFTEEN.

We all have to start somewhere ... although BT seem to be really taking their time at moving forward, agreed. What are they suggesting you do with 15Mb? My French isn't so great.
