If technology doesn't seem like magic, it's probably obsolete

I'm finding less time to update my blog these days, but my flickr photostream is often updated.

Playing in my house right now...

Pongal is an Indian harvest festival (primarily south Indian/Tamil, I
think), which runs for three days from the 14th of January. As with almost all Indian
festivals, there is food associated with the festival, and this one is also called Pongal.
This photo doesn\'t do it justice, but the sticky, sweet rice is tasty, not disimilar to
rice pudding (with cardamon) here in the UK.

I have just read up on a few sites about Pongal and it says that on the first day people clear out old things from their house and replace them with new. Then burn the old stuff! Now that is my kind of celebration :-D
As it happens I have just cleared out a load of old pots and pans from the kitchen and bought some new ones. I will be putting them out with the bins for collection on Monday morning...
"Well you see officer, it is the festival of Pongal so naturally I set fire to my bin..."
Keep up the good work keeping us informed of the various international festivals, most interesting.

My bad for not including a link to further information! Here's an informative one, and here's what google says.
