Unwired WiFi
Last Updated Friday June 20 at 00:30 GMT
This page was originally put up (October 2001) so that I could record thoughts and ideas on wireless technologies, predominantly in the mobile phone and home networking arena. Since then many things have happened - phones have taken an evolutionary leap and WiFi is on the up and up. My blog now records events in both of these spheres on a very regular basis, so the purposefulness of this page is really being called into question. Every month or so I try to get a group together to discuss wireless projects in Edinburgh, normally with muted reponse. Thanks to Adam getting in touch and hooking me up with the rest of the Backnet guys, it looks like something may finally get going!
Here are links to my node, estrella, on the major node databases: comsume, GAWD and NodeDB. As and when more goes on, I'll update here.
I was looking for some information comparing 802.11a, b & g, when I stumbled on a fairly easily-readable comparison from Linksys. As at June 19th: I've just set up a new AP in the middle of Edinburgh, at the Jolly Judge pub, right on the Royal Mile. The details are in NodeDB and Consume. If you visit the node, please drop me a line with any feedback.

Wap Browser Comparison
I'm doing some work that may involve WAP, so was interested to see which handsets supported which standards. It's really great to see Sony Ericsson out there leading the pack. My T68 had XHTML support since about January or February 2002, and yet some phones are still shipping with WAP 1.2.1 support. Poor show.
If you have any corrections or additions to the table, please mail them to me and I'll credit you.
Thanks are due to Jim, for updated S55 & SL55 information, Ian Deveney for a Nokia 3310/3330 update and Scott Allison for a 3650 update. Nokia configurator - here.

Berkeley
In October 2001, I had the excellent opportunity of speaking about mobile Internet and wireless technologies to a group of 40 or so senior students at the Haas Business School at UC Berkeley in California, thanks to my friend Phillip Gordon. (Click here to view it in PowerPoint.)
