Big Brother has been a bit of a washout this year, with one million fewer viewers per night. My view is that the producers of the show were trying too hard to make it cool, and they've ended up with a significantly reduced variety of personalities in the house, making the whole thing a lot less interesting.
So, what to do for next year... One option is to bin the show. But what would we have to fill our tabloids with then? Wimbledon just doesn't cut it and there is only so much you can write about the British weather. No, I say keep the show, but find a new way of selecting the house inhabitants.
Perhaps a huge big game of British Bulldogs would do, but that kind of cuts out disabled or impaired people. I'm recommending a lottery - pure and simple. Get the 10,000 entrants, give them each a number, then pick the first 12 out the machine, just like the National Lottery. Job done.
That could make some really great TV - imagine the potential diversity of personalities, in a confined space. Something really worth watching! Now, who is in charge of this show so that I can sell my idea...
