If technology doesn't seem like magic, it's probably obsolete

I'm finding less time to update my blog these days, but my flickr photostream is often updated.

Playing in my house right now...

Has anyone found a decent piece of gallery software that:

  • runs on Apache
  • is written in (ideally) PHP, or perl
  • doesn't require 15MB just to install
  • looks good
  • handles automatic thumbnailing
I'm looking for something nice and simple to put online for other members of my family to use, but searching has turned up nothing meeting the criteria above. My own gallery does run nicely, but it can be a bit fiddly at times, and I don't want a stack of calls for support ... and I want to encourage use of whatever gallery tool I do find. Suggestions would be very welcome.

I use Gallery 1 and have no problems. You will know about flickr. I have tried many others; snapfish (HP offering), ofoto (Kodak. I store my photos in photoshop elements 4 by year/month and upload them to Gallery. Email me if you want more info.

Hi Andy -- I looked at Gallery, and actually got to downloading it. However, even with the 'typical' download, once I'd unzipped the files I'd used 15MB. The account this is going into doesn't have a massive amount of space, and I know whatever I use does NOT need to be that big, so I was hoping to find something with a smaller footprint.

Somehow I just have an avergance to storing photos on sites I don't look after. That requires putting too much trust, and I've been burned by that kind of thing before.

dwlt, drift -- I'm checking out both of your suggestions. Plogger looks to be in front just now.

wee David -- I had a look at PixelPost, but I'm looking more for a gallery tool, rather than a blogging-style tool. Thank you for the suggestion though.
